Windy Hill Farm Dorpers Story
With over 40 years of experience dealing with sheep, we have had the chance to work with a variety of breeds. We have experienced with Suffolk, Columbia, Corriedale, and our main breed Dorper. One of the Co-Owners, John, has his associates in Animal Husbandry which shows his interest in farming and agriculture early on in his career. John has spent over 16 years as the Head Herdsman for a local farm industry working with over 1800 cows daily. After marrying his wife, Tamara, their family began to grow and entrepreneurship took a backseat to raising his 8 children. With guidance from God, and the need to grow their income with such a large family, they began their journey in growing their own business.
Windy Hill Farms deals exclusively with the Dorper breed, for a number of reasons. One, with John actively working at another job to support his family, and the rest of his children being homeschooled and on a very tight schedule, they needed a breed that was easy maintenance. Having their children involved in the overall process was an important aspect. Another reason was that Dorpers produced a short, light coat of wool and hair that requires no sheering. Not only do they adapt to a variety of climates, they have high fertility and growth rates while adapting to many grazing conditions.
Through guidance from our faith, good family values, and the love for animals we hope to grow our business to support our family and grow our farm. With a hard working ambition and the experience of the staff, we are dedicated to providing the best quality of sheep to other hard working honest farmers.
